But understand that every business must be registered to reap the tax benefits. ****

  2. You will need to decide the type of company you will be: LLC(Limited Liability Company), a sole proprietor, or a Partnership S Corp and file the appropriate paperwork. Research what each means and make a determination.

  3. The name of your company(business) (DBA) with the local city courthouse, state comptrollers office, to ensure that you can obtain the legal right to use it and check on the requirements for need for the DBA

  4. Must file with your city courthouse, state comptrollers office for your company/ business name so that no one will steal your company/ business name or any variance of that name.

  5. In your live in the United States, you will need to obtain a Employer Identification Number. If you are a sole proprietor then your social security will normally be your EIN number. For those outside of the United States, you may have to do something similar to identify your company/business as an employer.

  6. If you are selling your item, you must check with your city, county, or state to see if you must collect sales taxes and then you must file (send in) your sales taxes to the correct place. As you are required to collect sales tax whether online or locally, you must ensure that sales tax are properly paid through the correct state agencies. If you live outside of the US, check with your government to find the correct process. It may be in your best interest to get an accounting software package that will track this for you. It may be in your best interest as well to hire a certified public accountant (CPA) to help with yearly federal taxes. Again, if your reside outside of the US, please check with your government.

  7. Read all the alcohol, tobacco and lottery rules and laws that apply to gifting businesses.

These things can be found generally on the websites but do call and confirm that their website is correct.
