Profit($) and Co$t$ for your Gift($)

Have you ever wondered how to charge for your creation? What factors do you take into consideration when charging your customer for their purchase?

***Disclaimer: These are just some suggestions, recommendations or ideas on how to price your balloon for a sale. You are the deciding factor and you know your clients. You can decide how you want to price your creation your way. Remember this is just suggestions ****

Ju(2) used a book and a website when she first starting researching her gift balloon business.

There are several factors that will need to be considered when pricing your item for a sale:

  1. Cost of each balloon involved in your project such as BoBo's, 260's, latex, Qualatex, helium type, numbers, and foil. This is not the total list but do take into consideration all of the types you are using.

  2. Cost of supplies used to make your project: tissue paper, shred, tape, fishing line, foam, risers, glue dots, balloon shine, tulle and/or ribbons (this is not all that is usually used or that you may be use, so look at everything you are using)

  3. Cost of gifts inside: plushies, cards, candy, money, lotions, gift cards, lottery tickets, flowers etc. (take into consideration everything that goes inside as a gift) **if the customer gives you gifts to put inside, then this might be a flat rate fee for using their stuff instead of your own.

  4. Cost of the vinyl used on your balloon if used.

  5. Cost of a business card with the instructions written on it on how to pop their gift.

  6. Cost of the item used to transport your item. (If you use our gift box, then $1.50 for white or $1.95 for the color)

  7. Delivery charge to get the balloon to its destination. Some charge a flat rate fee for a certain mile radius or you can charge by the mile. You should take into consideration the gas and the wear and tear on your vehicle.

  8. Taxes for your state

  9. Estimate the time it took you to make this creation. (You should be paid for your time).

Once you figure up the amount of the above, you will know what it will cost you to make your creation. You should consider how much profit ($$ or %) you want to make so that you will have money to build up your business instead of dipping into your own pocket to pay for supplies. You should never take a loss on anything you are doing because supplies cost money, what you do costs money. You will need to understand your market and never undersell your time to create this wonderful gift.
